Door deal

In a door deal the artist is paid a percentage of the door, the ticket and walk-up money, instead of a fixed guarantee.

Also called: door split, percentage of the door, door

Definition

Door deals are common for smaller shows. The artist takes an agreed percentage (sometimes 100%) of receipts, often after the venue or promoter deducts agreed costs such as sound. Exact terms vary by contract.

Formula

Artist payment = percentage × (door receipts − agreed costs)

Worked example

A 70% door deal on $3,000 of receipts after $400 of agreed costs pays the artist $1,820.
