Guarantee

A guarantee is the fixed fee the promoter pays the artist regardless of ticket sales.

Also called: artist guarantee, flat guarantee, guaranteed fee

Definition

A flat guarantee puts the ticket-sales risk on the promoter. Many deals combine a guarantee with a percentage of the net, as in a versus deal, so the artist shares the upside of a strong on-sale.

Formula

Promoter result = NBOR − show expenses − guarantee

Worked example

An artist on a $2,000 guarantee is paid $2,000 whether 100 or 500 tickets sell.

Illustrative numbers, not a real show.

In a TicketCounts.io report

TicketCounts.io reports show tickets sold, not revenue, so the promoter can compare each count with the number of tickets it takes to cover the guarantee and the show expenses.
