Capacity (cap)
Capacity, or cap, is the maximum number of tickets that can be issued for a show, set by the room, the layout and the license.
Also called: cap, room capacity, sellable capacity, venue capacity

Definition
The gross capacity is the legal maximum for the room in a given configuration. Sellable capacity is what is left after kills (seats removed for production or sightlines) and holds are taken out. Counts are usually quoted against capacity, as in "412 of 500 cap".
Formula
Sellable capacity = gross capacity − kills − holds
Worked example
A 500-cap room with 10 seats killed for the sound desk and 20 held for the artist has 470 sellable tickets.
